TEAM Discussions #1
Jake: Hey guys! So Easter just ended right? Well, I noticed that we had far less Easter encouragement that we should have. I know Mary did her group call over Easter and I'm glad she did, we still needed more. Easter is arguably the most important event for Christians. So I sincerely ask you all to express some form of encouragement or just something you want to share that you got over Easter weekend.
Sabine: This last week has been a blur, but this year I got to see family and spend time with them which was fun cuz we haven’t seen them in forever. We did a church service online.
Mary: Something my friend and I have been talking about is that we don’t like Easter or Christmas because both should be celebrated throughout the year, not just one day, week, or month.
Mandy: Well, this Easter, we saw the Sights and Sounds Production called JESUS. It was so cool to basically be able to see the Story of Jesus' ministry and death. There were so many parts of the production that really hit me, but one of the biggest ones was when Jesus was praying to God before he was betrayed. The scene shows how overwhelmed Jesus was. He knew that not only would He die, but he would also carry all the sins of everyone in the world, past, present, and future. Yet, He was willing to die anyway because His love for us is measurable.
Jake: (on what Mary said) I totally agree with that, but the idea of the date itself is to focus on it. There's a lot of things we can look to in the bible and celebrate during the year. And yes, I do totally think people should celebrate all the time, there's something special about celebrating on the actual day.
We are told to show the love of God by using Jesus' example on the cross. I'm pretty darn sure we all know that we could never live to that example. But we absolutely need to try! We know who God is and we know that he loves us more than we can even understand. Yet, we're still supposed to follow that example.
Then there's Jesus who made a bold claim for man. But not for God. He said that he is the only way to God. So many people hate that verse because no one wants to accept that there is only one way to heaven. So many people believe that "all roads lead to heaven," but we know that's not true. The gospel is so simple and that we always overcomplicate it. But we can't, we are terrible people who sin every single day. We deserve nothing close to what Jesus did for us. But he did it not because we loved him but because He loved us(1 John 4:10)
Mandy: I think that is a reason that some people reject the Gospel. It is so simple, and they don't understand why it is so simple. They think it is more complicated and some people think they have to believe what the Bible says AND do good works, and that is not true. Our best works are like filthy rags.
Jake: That's true, you notice that every religion says you have to work your way to the top. But the truth we know is that we could never ever work ourselves to perfection. And so for that reason, people don't want to accept that and don't want to believe that they need to have a Savior.
